Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups powdered sugar (for icing)
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla, mixing well.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together flour and baking powder. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture until combined; the dough should be soft yet firm.
  3. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Roll out chilled dough on a floured surface to about ¼ inch thick. Use cookie cutters to shape snowmen.
  5. Place cut-out cookies on parchment-lined baking sheets and bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  6. Allow cookies to cool completely before decorating with royal icing or frosting.
