  • 1 cup granulated sugar (200g)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (100g)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (40g)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (125g)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 oz red gel food coloring
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chocolate chips (90g)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8 inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat and mix in granulated and brown sugars until smooth.
  3. Allow the mixture to cool slightly before whisking in eggs one at a time and adding vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, combine cocoa powder, flour, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients until just combined.
  5. Stir in red food coloring until evenly mixed. If using, gently fold in chocolate chips.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared dish, smooth it out, and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
  7. Let cool slightly before cutting into squares.
