Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 2 cups tart apples (like Granny Smith), chopped
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ cup brown sugar (packed)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast; let sit until frothy. Mix in sugar, melted butter, salt, and eggs. Gradually add flour to form a soft dough.
  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl covered with plastic wrap; let rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled.
  3. While the dough rises, peel and chop apples. In another bowl, mix cream cheese with sugar and cinnamon until smooth.
  4. Roll out risen dough into a rectangle. Spread cream cheese mixture evenly; scatter chopped apples over it. Roll tightly into a log and slice into equal pieces.
  5. For the crumble topping, mix brown sugar with flour and butter until crumbly; sprinkle over buns.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Arrange buns in a greased baking dish; allow to rise briefly before baking for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Cool slightly before serving.
