  • 1 lb sirloin or ribeye steak, cubed
  • 3 medium Yukon Gold potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 large sweet onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream (or half-and-half)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 2 tbsp butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a large baking dish.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Sauté onions until translucent; add garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Add steak pieces to the skillet. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika; cook for about 5 minutes until browned but not fully cooked.
  4. In the greased baking dish, layer half of the potato slices followed by half of the steak mixture and half of the cheese. Drizzle with half of the heavy cream. Repeat layers.
  5. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil during the last 10 minutes for a golden cheese crust.
