Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 ¼ cups warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp molasses
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp melted butter

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water and yeast; let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Stir in brown sugar and molasses.
  2. Gradually mix in flour and salt until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl. If sticky, add more flour.
  3. Knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  5. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Shape risen dough into a loaf and place in greased loaf pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Brush melted butter on top while warm; let cool slightly before slicing.
