  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp yellow mustard

  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 4 slices thick bread (sourdough or Texas toast)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked, breaking it apart with a spatula.
  2. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent. Stir in ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper; simmer for about 5 minutes.
  3. Butter one side of each slice of bread. On the unbuttered side of one slice, layer the Sloppy Joe mixture followed by cheddar cheese. Top with another slice of bread.
  4. Heat a skillet over medium-low heat and grill the sandwich buttered side down until golden brown (about 3 minutes). Flip and repeat on the other side until crispy and cheese is melted.
  5. Slice diagonally and serve immediately.
