Method
Prepare the Cake Batter
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8-inch round cake pan with butter or cooking spray.
- In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine the dark chocolate chips and butter. Stir until melted and smooth.
- Remove from heat and whisk in the sugar, salt, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Add the eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition.
- Sift in the cocoa powder and mix until the batter is smooth and glossy.
Bake the Cake
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until the center is set but still slightly soft.
- Remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then invert onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Serve
- Once cooled, slice the cake and serve with a dollop of whipped cream on top.
- Garnish with chocolate shavings if desired.
