Prepare the Batter
- Preheat the oven to 320°F (160°C) and grease a 9-inch square baking dish.
- In a large bowl, beat the egg yolks and granulated sugar together until pale and creamy.
- Stir in the warm milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Sift in the flour and mix until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
- Gently fold the egg whites into the batter until no white streaks remain.
Bake the Cake
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish.
- Slowly pour the hot water around the baking dish to create a water bath.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes or until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and let cool completely in the water bath.
Serve
- Once cooled, dust the top with powdered sugar and garnish with fresh berries if desired.
- Cut into squares and serve chilled or at room temperature.
