- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in the penne pasta and beef broth, bringing the mixture to a boil.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10-12 minutes, or until the pasta is tender and most of the broth is absorbed.
- Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and combined.
- While the cheese is melting, preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Spread the frozen tater tots evenly over the pasta mixture.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.
